Cargo trainees raise more than 13,000 euros for help alliance with their advent calendar sale and use it to support children with disabilities in Vietnam

For the second time running, current and former Cargo trainees have developed and sold an advent calendar with great prizes for the benefit of help alliance, completely under their own steam. As the 1,000 copies of the calendar sold out last year, in 2017 more than 1,500 calendars were purchased. And so it was that the tidy sum of 13,056.09 euros was raised which will benefit the help alliance project Perspectives for Children with Handicap in Vietnam, which is currently supporting nearly 300 mentally and physically disabled children.

“Everything’s a matter of course to us: access to education, prospects, personal fulfilment. With the donation from the advent calendar campaign, we see a great opportunity to help help alliance and the SCC in Vietnam, especially to enable children with disabilities to participate in society and have a self-determined future. We would like to thank all the advent calendar buyers and sponsors for this”, explain Julia Wagner (ProTeam), Doreen Pietzsch (formerly of StartCargo), Manuel Postbiegel (StartCargo), Jan Wegner (formerly of StartCargo) and Sebastian Blech (StartCargo).

The help alliance project also includes the training of teachers and the engagement of the families. The project has been supported since 2008 by help alliance. The project coordinator is Lufthansa pilot Dominik Kopp.

“We would like to say a big thank you for this great initiative”, says Joachim Steinbach, Managing Director of help alliance. “This great commitment from Cargo talent will allow us to train 23 more teachers at ten different schools in the metropolitan area of Ho Chi Minh City, so that children with disabilities can be taught in the best possible way.”
