World Clean Up Day 2023 with New Record
The Community Clean Up 2023 was a complete success! Lufthansa Group employees from all over the world, local help alliance communities, and children and young people from the help alliance projects collected more than 4,900 trash bags between September 9th and 23rd – doubling the result compared to 2022.
The World Clean Up Day is a Global Day of Action that annually takes place on the third Saturday in September since 2018. Since 2019, help alliance has been organizing global Clean Up campaigns with the support of committed colleagues, where employees collect trash on site and help make the world a little cleaner.
This year, around 4,500 colleagues from various business units and airlines of the Lufthansa Group as well as children and young people from help alliance projects participated in the Community Clean Up in more than 60 cities worldwide.
Whether cigarette butts, street signs or car tires – trash was collected not only in the city and at the stations, but also in offices, on beaches and even in the air. In total, more than 4,900 large trash bags filled up.
For the first time, a Digital Clean Up was also held, in which 400 employees of the Lufthansa Group participated. Colleagues were able to delete old e-mails, unused files and duplicates from their laptops and cell phones from the comfort of their desks, thus making a positive contribution to the environment.
This year, the Lufthansa Group once again donated five euros for each trash bag collected. In total, a donation of more than 24,000 euros was collected, which will support the “School of the Future” project in Tanzania, as well as other projects. An innovative school center is being built in the Tanzania project, which will give disadvantaged children in the region access to primary education and place particular emphasis on sustainability, environmental protection and integration.
