“A role model for all of us”

Autumn concert of the Lufthansa Orchestra for help alliance

This article begins unusually – with the end. The audience got up in the Langener Stadthalle and with standing ovations, they enthusiastically showed respect for a brilliant musical evening for several minutes. For two hours, more than 60 musicians from all parts of the group had taken the visitors on a musical journey through two centuries of European music history under the tried and tested direction of Colin Touchin.

The proceeds of the evening were donated to the help alliance, which presented itself at a booth in the foyer. Help Alliance Managing Director Joachim Steinbach announced that the donations will go to an educational project in Puerto Rico, which has recently suffered severe destruction as a result of Hurricane Maria. A particularly nice gesture: the musicians of the orchestra, who have a special connection to the Lufthansa Technik location through their concert tour to Puerto Rico, had spontaneously let a donation bag go around in their ranks before the concert and were able to hand over around 600 euros to Joachim Steinbach.

“What you as the Lufthansa Orchestra are doing here is a role model for all of us,” said Dr. Bettina Volkens, Member of the Executive Board and patron of the orchestra, in her welcoming address. Employees from all business segments and parts of the Group play a cross-hierarchical role together with one goal. She was very proud to have taken over the post of patroness and added with a smile: “Although I don’t play an instrument and I can’t sing either.

As usual at the concerts of the Lufthansa Orchestra, Uwe Müller once again skillfully and charmingly led through the evening.Music lovers should already now paint themselves red in the calendar on April 16,2018. Then the Lufthansa Orchestra will perform again together with the Lufthansa Concert Choir. Supported by the Spires Philharmonic Choir from Coventry/UK, the Requiem by Johannes Brahms will be performed in the Heiliggeistkirche in Frankfurt.
