Project background

The war situation has changed the structure of Syrian society. Many husbands and male relatives have died and the role of women as the backbone of society has been strengthened. There is a need to impart the relevant knowledge in order to secure the income and development of families and villagers. In particular, knowledge in the field of IT (office products, general knowledge about management for small businesses / start-ups) and language skills (English / German) are necessary and should be imparted through the project.

Target group

The project is aimed at women aged 17 and over in north-eastern Syria who would like to take part in free IT and language courses to strengthen their professional skills and competencies.

The project enables women in the Kurdish war zone of northern Syria to learn software skills for office work, particularly Microsoft Office applications. The trainers also teach basic English language skills. This makes it easier for the women to enter the job market and even work from home, e.g. for aid organizations or international companies. They create their own income, reshape their future and are often the sole support for their families.

Why am I supporting the project? I want to support women to build a future for themselves out of the crisis and take control of their lives. They are courageous women who take care of themselves and their children and set themselves goals. That is admirable.

Project targets

The project offers women in north-east Syria an opportunity to improve their IT and language skills, thereby increasing their career opportunities and promoting their financial independence. We are setting up a local training center where women will have a safe place to learn, exchange ideas and complete online courses.

The measures include the construction of the training center, the establishment of the training program and the recruitment of appropriate trainers. Training and logistics processes will be set up on site, including marketing, material procurement, IT infrastructure and office equipment.

In addition, the entire community benefits from women who are educated and financially independent. The project promotes gender equality and enables the transformation to a fairer society. Children, especially young girls, also benefit from the advantages of women’s empowerment and education, as they are more likely to complete their own education.
