Olgas and Irinas Story

"Pray...just mentally"

On February 24, at 4 a.m., we woke up to explosions. Mom came to us and told us to be quiet. We didn’t understand what was going on. All night we hid in the basement and listened to the explosions. It was very scary!

The next day we decided to leave our wonderful, peaceful town of Bucha. Finding a way out of the city was difficult because of the constant shelling and blown bridges. We left our town and our home and were afraid to even think: maybe this is forever.

We went to Europe. It was a long and difficult road: constant transfers, long resettlements and a large number of people trying to escape the war. When we entered the city of Scytomyr we were told to turn off our phones. And then someone shouted, “Pray…just mentally.” And everyone fell silent. We drove slowly and quietly. We could hear loud noises, explosions nearby and constant sirens.

For a few days we lived in Poland family of volunteers. It was at their house were our brother celebrated his 15th birthday. The volunteers were very eager to create a festive atmosphere for us. It was very touching.
Our destination was Germany. There our family found a wonderful accommodation. But life without music was very difficult for us. Fortunately, we were soon able to visit the local music school and do what we love – play the piano.

As soon as we heard that Bucha had been liberated, we decided to return home. The anticipation of meeting our family and friends again warmed our souls. Returning home was a moment we will never forget. Now we are finally back in Bucha, at home, and can play the piano again in the rebuilt Bucha Music School.
