Major donation from upgrade sales on board / Lufthansa film team visits township

The 85 children and those responsible for the help alliance project iThemba in the township of Capricorn in Cape Town have double reason to be happy: More than 45,000 euros were raised from the sale of Premium Eco-Upgrades on board Lufthansa aircraft in the first year. In contrast to the sale of items from the on-board sales range, where crews receive a commission, five euros per upgrade went into a large pot. The staff representatives agreed to donate the money to the help alliance project iThemba.

In addition, the girls and boys of the iThemba preschool were also pleased to receive a visit from a Lufthansa film crew last week and were curiously shown all the functions of the camera. The pictures were taken for the Lufthansa series “City of the month”.

help alliance project coordinator and purser Susanne French is very happy about the donation, which will enable the construction of a primary school, and about the visit of the camera team: “Cape Town has many wonderful facets that are worth a visit. But there are also dark sides, like the numerous townships where poverty and violence prevail. Children who grow up there have hardly any prospects for a self-determined life. The only way out is education.”
