This was the first help alliance On-Site Event

08. December 2022

More than 80 project managers and community leads came together to celebrate their commitment to help alliance.

Volunteering has many faces: At the Lufthansa Group, many employees engage in voluntary work. In this way, they make an important contribution to our society worldwide.

On the occasion of the International Volunteer Day on December 5, a very special premiere: For the first time since the Corona pandemic, the global help alliance family came together for a physical meeting in Seeheim. It was particularly pleasing that committed colleagues from countries such as Japan, the Philippines, Brazil and the USA made the long journey to participate in this unique event. The event showed in particular how many different ways our colleagues around the world volunteer for their fellow human beings with help alliance in addition to their working hours. The commitment of the individuals ranges, for example, from the coordination of an aid project that enables young people in Cameroon to integrate into the labour market, to volunteer colleagues in Singapore who are involved in soup kitchens as a help alliance community.

Monday started with a welcoming speech by the Deputy Managing Director Susanne Kotysch, who gave the participants a brief outline of the history of help alliance. The importance of help alliance as part of the Lufthansa Group’s new ESG strategy was reinforced by a keynote address by Caroline Drischel (Head of Corporate Responsibility, LHG). In the subsequent discussion, Caroline Drischel and Benedikt Schneider (Head of Lufthansa Cabin, FRA and MUC) answered the questions and suggestions of the interested participants. During this discussion, it became clear that many employees would like to see a stronger involvement and support of the management in the numerous activities of the help alliance projects and communities.

Finally, the Monday evening came to a happy end with drinks and music in the “Last Call Bar”. The participants were particularly pleased about the spontaneous visit of Christina Förster and Dr. Michael Niggemann, who sought personal conversations with individual project leaders and community leads to learn more about their commitment.

Finally, Tuesday was used to exchange best practices and opportunities for improvement in workshops on key topics such as communication, sustainability and volunteering.

This first on-site event showed above all how important personal contact is within the help alliance, which no MS Teams call can replace. Help alliance thrives on mutual inspiration and a shared vision as employees to make a contribution to a fairer world. The team of help alliance would like to thank all participants and all colleagues who got involved.
