On International Volunteer Day, help alliance extends its thanks to all volunteers and supporters

During the Christmas period in particular, the many volunteers of the help alliance are given a face. During bake sales, the sale of Advent calendars or many other activities for the benefit of the Lufthansa Group charity organization.

For this reason, we would like to extend a big thank you to all our diligent supporters on this International Volunteer Day!

Special thanks go to the colleagues who represent the global backbone of our organization in the form of project managers, learning supporters, mentors and friends of help alliance. With your dedication, you help build the foundation on which the people in our projects can confidently stand.

We know that it is not a matter of course to sacrifice your free time on a regular basis, in order to help create a better life for people in the projects, whom you may never meet in person.

Statistics show how comprehensive the volunteer activities are: Volunteers spend two hours and seven minutes a day on average for their activities, according to the Federal Statistical Office. But we know: Many of you give away even more of your time to your volunteer work.

For this reason, it is perhaps good to know that you are not alone. Some 40 percent of German citizens have been involved in volunteer work for over ten years. This is around 25 million people.

Their motivation to do selfless acts is our incentive!

The International Volunteer Day for Economic and Social Development (IVD) is a day of international observance and activities to recognize and promote volunteer activities. It was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly effective from 1986. In Germany, it replaced Tag des Ehrenamts (Volunteer Day), which used to be observed on December 2. On this day, the Order of Merit (Bundesverdienstkreuz) is also awarded to particularly committed individuals.
