Second edition of #helpallianceLIVE with climb-Lernferien on Thursday, October 15th at 12pm
After a successful first edition of #helpallianceLIVE on the topic “Impact of the Corona Crisis on Developing Countries”, for the next edition we are looking forward to discussing together with CLIMB about the climb-Lernferien (=learning vacations), why projects in Germany also matter and how Lufthansa Group employees volunteer.
This is how you can join in live
Education is a human right and the key to a self-determined life. As an internationally active aid organization, help alliance has been working hard since its foundation to ensure that disadvantaged children and young people receive high-quality education worldwide.
Even in the economically strong Federal Republic of Germany, children and young people are repeatedly affected by educational disadvantages. In Germany, every fifth child, about 2.55 million children, is affected by poverty. Particularly due to the economic consequences of the Corona pandemic for families, it can be assumed that the number of children living in poverty will increase. The social background, educational level and income of the parents continue to determine educational success and thus the children’s future prospects. In addition to unjust access to education, disadvantaged children are often socially isolated. Due to a lack of financial means, they cannot participate in school trips or be active in sports clubs. At home the children often have no place of their own to retreat, they lack a room to do their homework in a quiet place or simply invite friends.
In order to address the above-mentioned problems, help alliance works together with CLIMB, which offers a unique educational program in Germany, the climb-Lernferien (=learning vacation), to inspire children and adults to learn and strengthen them for their future life. In learning times and projects at school, the children discover their strengths, learn with and from each other and discover new places and face challenging situations on excursions, for example to the climbing forest. During the ten-day learning vacations, social learning is the main focus. After the vacations, they dare to try out new things and take responsibility for their own educational path. Through better academic success and a strengthened personality, the children have more chances of an equal start in their careers and of escaping the vicious circle of poverty and unemployment.
What is #helpallianceLIVE?
The digital format #helpallianceLIVE was created in May to keep in close contact with all friends, supporters and sponsors of help alliance – as well as the individual projects – during the Corona crisis.
The current situation poses many challenges. Lufthansa Group employees, who volunteer all over the world, are the heart of help alliance. Before the crisis, personal exchange with and personal insights from them were always possible. Short-time work, home office and travel restrictions largely take away this opportunity. Hygiene regulations make it difficult to carry out projects, creative concepts are necessary for volunteer work, financial support has to be rethought in many places.
In order to stay close to the projects, their challenges and exciting solutions, help alliance invites you to this virtual format.
What can you learn and who are the guests?
In the second edition of #helpallianceLIVE you will gain insights into the joint project work of help alliance and the partner organization CLIMB with the climb-Lernferien. You will also have the opportunity to be there live during the learning vacations in Mainz – for sure digitally!
In the context of the live format we would like to deal with these questions, among others:
- Why does help alliance support projects such as the climb-Lernferien in Germany and how is the cooperation for this joint project work structured?
- How does climb-Lernferien work? Which concept does the organization pursue?
- What role do the volunteers play in the project? And what experience have they gained so far?
- What inspires students and teachers during the climb-Lernferien?
You can look forward to the following guests who will be happy to answer all your questions:
- Mohamed Attaallah, project portfolio manager at help alliance and responsible for all help alliance projects in Germany
- Christine Klemmer, voluntary help alliance project coordinator for the project Discovering Potentials in Learning Holidays together with CLIMB
- Markus Grosse, voluntary supporter of help alliance and volunteer for the project with CLIMB in Mainz
- Anna Dremel, representative of CLIMB and local coordinator of the climb learning vacations in Mainz
- Additional: students who are currently participating in the learning vacations in Mainz
