Projects

Behind each of our projects are people who make them successful. Since the foundation of help alliance, every project is supervised by a volunteer project coordinator. Together with help alliance and competent local partners, they take responsibility for ensuring that the project work has a positive impact on the beneficiaries and contributes to sustainable development. The two main focal points of the work are “Quality education for all” and “Creating job prospects”. However, many of the projects also cover other priorities from the areas of: Nutrition, Health, Environmental Protection, Equality, Inclusion, Integration and Abolish Child Labor.

Quality education for all

Education is a human right and the key to a self-determined life. We are firmly committed to ensuring that disadvantaged children and young people worldwide receive high-quality education. This includes school and preschool education, but also support in extracurricular activities.

Creating career prospects

We are convinced that a good vocational training is the basis for a successful professional life. In many project countries, however, there is no state-organized training system. We therefore support young people with high-quality education and training opportunities and provide them with mentors.

South Africa
Future Academy, Cape Town

The step from school to further education is often a big one for young adults. Through a comprehensive tutoring programme in mathematics, science and English for students in the eleventh and twelfth grades in South Africa, we support them in recognizing their potential and developing their prospects. Our project creates a safe and encouraging learning environment for students from underprivileged backgrounds and equips them with the skills they need to continue their education.

Kenya
EcoGlam, Mtwapa

In order to counteract the high unemployment rate, especially among young mothers, a training branch for processing coconut and moringa with a special focus on sustainability is being set up in Mtwapa.

Nigeria
Chess for Change, Lagos

By participating in our “Chess for Change” project, children can improve their critical thinking, problem-solving and decision-making skills. The children receive intensive chess training, valuable life skills education, mentoring and academic support. It also encourages creativity and lays a solid foundation for academic success and personal development.

Liberia
Read to Succeed, Monrovia

We are improving the literacy rate in Liberia, a country where only 48% of the population can read after many years of civil war. Our initiative focuses on providing children and young adults with essential reading skills. By providing them with a self-directed and fun learning experience and a positive environment, we empower them to succeed in their education and beyond.

Kenya
EmpowerHer, Kibera

Mental health is a major challenge in Kibera, an informal settlement in Nairobi, with high rates of depression, anxiety, trauma and substance abuse. Our partner organization has set itself the task of tackling this problem by raising awareness of mental health, reducing stigma and implementing community-based interventions and trauma-informed programs to strengthen resilience.

Tanzania
School of the future, Arusha region

The project region Arusha is located in northeastern Tanzania. Here, a large number of children live in difficult and poverty-stricken conditions. In order to help these children and at the same time to develop the community as a whole, we want to build an innovative school center with a special focus on sustainability, environmental protection and integration.

Uganda
Entrepreneurship Program, Masaka

To counteract the difficult labor market situation in Uganda, teachers are being trained at 12 secondary schools to introduce young people to entrepreneurship, develop product ideas with them and support them in setting up businesses.

Namibia
Brainfood, Katutura

The project in the former township of Katutura combats two core problems: malnutrition and the resulting difficult learning conditions for children and young people.

South Africa
Surf Therapy, Cape Town

Statistically, each child in the township experiences an average of eight traumatic events per year. Also at iThemba Primary School we can observe again and again that many children are inhibited in their development by traumatic experiences and need special support to process these experiences.

Gambia
Training Center, Ballingho

Since 2019, unemployed young people and returned migrants have been finding new perspectives for an independent future through an apprenticeship in agriculture. The goal of the project is long-term financial independence from subsidies. To this end, the project is to be expanded in 2023.

Ghana
Youth development, Accra

In Accra’s poorer neighborhoods, there are hardly any after-school learning opportunities for children and people with disabilities. The newly built youth center is therefore a safe place where they can receive care, tutoring and medical attention.

South Africa
Sustainable sanitary pads, Cape Town

The “WEpads” project aims to give more women and girls access to feminine hygiene products, offering self-produced menstrual pads that cost a maximum of ZAR 1 (EUR 0.06). The production and sale of the pads creates jobs for previously unemployed women from the township.
