help alliance publishes annual report 2020

20. May 2021

For the first time more than 40,000 beneficiaries supported worldwide / Key highlights and figures of 2020*

The current situation in India and many other parts of the world shows the serious impact of the Corona pandemic, especially on the weakest and poorest. In densely populated slums, it is almost impossible to comply with distance and hygiene rules. Furthermore, the access to clean drinking water or medical care is denied to many.

As a globally active aid organization, help alliance therefore sees it as a particularly urgent task to emphatically support the people most affected by the global crisis and to mitigate the negative consequences as best as possible. The Lufthansa Group NGO reacted quickly to the changed situation caused by the Corona crisis and was able to continue its important work in the areas of education, work and income, prevention, health and food supply in its 39 projects in 2020.

“We invested around 2.5 million euros in project work and were able to support over 40,000 people worldwide for the first time ever! Reallocating some of the funds for urgent Corona aid, like distributing food parcels and hygiene articles, meant we were able to provide many people with additional emergency supplies.”

– Andrea Pernkopf, managing director of help alliance

In the annual report published today, help alliance presents a look back with many highlights at the year 2020, which was dominated by Corona. Among other things, the report contains detailed key figures on the impact of the project work, three exciting impact stories from projects in Germany, India and Togo, donation highlights and the most important financial figures.

Wide range of Corona emergency aid measures in the reporting year
The worldwide Corona pandemic suddenly presented many help alliance projects and beneficiaries with new challenges. In response, help alliance reallocated some of its funding to Corona’s emergency measures and launched additional fundraising activities. By acting quickly and purposefully, numerous people were provided with the most important things, and many projects were able to continue their important work quickly thanks to unconventional and creative solutions. In the reporting year 2020, help alliance educated more than 37,000 people about Corona and trained more than 30,000 people in need in hygiene measures. In the area of emergency care, the NGO provided around 18,000 people with masks and each more than 10,000 people with food and hygiene products. Thanks to quickly implemented measures, around 20,000 children and young people were able to continue taking part in the aid organization’s educational programs – mostly digitally.

The situation remains critical in many projects
Due to the ongoing Corona crisis and its far-reaching effects, especially for children and young people, a return to normality is hardly possible in many projects. Instead, the provision of basic needs continues to be the top priority. For that reason, help alliance highly welcomes every donation in favor of the Covid-19 prevention and emergency aid fund and guarantees that 100 percent of every cent donated goes directly to the project work.
