Houses of Hope, Cape Town
In Egoli, an informal settlement in Cape Town, a new education and training center with additional classrooms for 200 children and young people from the townships is being built on a 2,000 square meter site. It combines early childhood development, school support, career guidance, and practical training, and is complemented by a strong empowerment program for girls and women.

Project Background
The townships of Cape Town lack educational opportunities and prospects for the future. Unemployment, poverty, and structural disadvantage characterize the everyday lives of many young people. The “Houses of Hope” project aims to counteract this. The new center reaches more children than before and opens up educational and training opportunities that go far beyond mere care. By imparting theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and life skills, young people are given opportunities for employment or self-employment – and thus the foundation for a self-determined life.
Target Group
The project is aimed at children and young people from the townships of Cape Town who are growing up in precarious living conditions. The focus is on the “Ubomi children,” who are supported from early childhood to young adulthood. Special attention is given to girls and young women. Targeted empowerment programs strengthen their self–confidence, economic independence, and active participation in society.
Projet Goals
By acquiring the 2,000 square meter property and building the education and training center in Egoli, we are creating a place that offers much more than traditional educational institutions. Early childhood development, academic support, and practical training programs are closely intertwined here. In addition, students’ digital skills, financial literacy, and personal development are strengthened through life skills training. This gives them concrete prospects for the future, whether through a job or the opportunity to build their own livelihood.
Around 200 children and their families, as well as young adults who are completing training at the center, benefit directly. Indirectly, the project reaches the entire community of Egoli with its approximately 3,000 residents. They all benefit from the new offerings, impetus, and prospects. As a result, a place of hope becomes a place of real opportunities for the future.
