The project

In many communities around Mbarara, the effects of deforestation, air pollution, and inadequate waste management are felt every day. Schools consume large amounts of firewood for meal preparation – at high environmental and health costs. At the same time, there is often a lack of structured environmental education and concrete career pathways in the field of sustainable development.

The project therefore connects education with practical solutions. In eco-clubs and classrooms, students implement their own environmental projects – from tree nurseries and beekeeping to urban gardening. They experience that their actions make a difference and carry this knowledge into their families and communities.

Energy-efficient eco-stoves significantly reduce firewood consumption and improve air quality in schools. In addition, training in waste separation, sustainable agriculture, and agroforestry promotes responsible resource management.

Coaching, career training, and internships open up new opportunities for young people within the growing green economy. In close cooperation with local partners, the project creates a holistic approach that links environmental responsibility, education, and income opportunities – strengthening resilient schools and contributing to a sustainable future.

I support Green Future Uganda because the project combines education with practical environmental protection and aims to empower children and young people to shape their country responsibly. I am particularly enthusiastic about the project’s realistic and sustainable approach: locally produced eco-stoves reduce fuel consumption and improve local conditions – a sustainable approach with long-term effects.

I have had ties to the people of Uganda for over 30 years. This foundation of trust makes this commitment particularly valuable to me.
