Community Empowerment Center, Krishnapuram
The “Community Empowerment Center” strengthens disadvantaged communities in Krishnapuram by combining vocational training, psychosocial support and sustainable income opportunities. It creates a space where women and young people can rebuild confidence, develop skills and shape their own economic future.

The project
Following the closure of the gold mines, many families lost not only their jobs but also their economic foundation. Unemployment, lack of prospects and intergenerational trauma continue to shape daily life. Women and girls in particular face heightened risks such as early marriage, school dropouts and domestic violence. At the same time, accessible services for mental health, vocational training and sustainable livelihoods remain limited.
The Community Empowerment Center responds with an integrated approach that connects education, psychosocial care and income generation. Women and young people receive hands-on training in tailoring, pottery, carpentry, digital literacy, creative crafts and sustainable agriculture. Life skills such as financial literacy, communication and resilience are embedded throughout the program.
Psychological counseling, trauma workshops and menstrual health education and services are integral components. A business incubator supports participants in developing their own income-generating activities, while a local shop and additional distribution channels help bring their products to market.
The result is a holistic model that strengthens dignity, economic stability and longterm resilience within the community.
