Career Perspectives, Freetown
The project trains unemployed youth in IT skills, soft skills, and entrepreneurship, giving them real opportunities to earn their own income. It creates jobs, delivers affordable technology, and opens new perspectives for young women while contributing to Sierra Leone’s digital development.

The project
In Sierra Leone, a generation of young people is growing up with little opportunity despite their potential: 70% of youth are unemployed, and many leave school without practical skills or a chance to earn their own income. At the same time, the country lacks affordable IT hardware and qualified professionals – a risk of being left behind in the digital transformation.
The career prospects project creates a space where young people can take their future into their own hands. This social enterprise trains unemployed youth – at least half of them young women – in the repair, maintenance, and refurbishment of laptops, smartphones, and televisions. Participants gain hands-on IT skills, soft skills, and entrepreneurial thinking while working on real projects.
The goal is to build a self-sustaining social business that trains 20 apprentices per semester, provides high-quality IT services, and brings affordable refurbished devices to the market. Participants also acquire the knowledge to open their own IT workshops – often right at home – offering life-changing opportunities, especially for young mothers.
Funding covers tools, internship allowances, marketing, a small shop, and a vehicle for repair and delivery services.
The project not only creates jobs but also strengthens families, promotes a circular economy, delivers affordable technology across Sierra Leone, and drives the country’s digital development. The project goes far beyond learning: it opens real paths to a self-determined life.
