Building Dreams, Barú
The project creates urgently needed housing for teachers on the Barú peninsula near Cartagena – laying the foundation for reliable, high-quality education. At the same time, it strengthens local employment, empowers women, and invests in the sustainable development of the entire community.

The project
On the Barú peninsula, safe accommodation for teachers is scarce. Many dedicated educators commute under difficult conditions or eventually leave the region. For children, this means a lack of continuity, constantly changing role models, and uncertain educational pathways.
The project “Building Dreams” provides dignified housing and, with it, the foundation for stable educational work. When teachers can live in the community long term, trust grows, relationships deepen, and real future prospects emerge. Education becomes reliable and therefore truly effective.
At the same time, the project strengthens local development. Jobs are created for people from the region during the construction phase. The building process is intentionally designed as a space for learning and qualification, expanding practical skills and craftsmanship. Sustainable infrastructure is combined with traditional construction methods, respecting and preserving the cultural identity of the community.
A special focus lies on empowering young women, particularly in the field of early childhood care. In addition, a pilot program for four- to five-year-olds closes a critical gap in early childhood education.
The result is more than housing: it is a stable foundation for education, participation, and a self-determined future for Barú.
