A safe place to live, learn, and grow

In our project “With heart and hands” in Guiglo, Ivory Coast, we offer orphaned children a safe home and access to education, while sustainable sources of income such as a vegetable garden and small businesses ensure the home’s financial independence. Last year, important milestones were reached that offer the children stability, security, and prospects for the future:

A new orphanage was built and developed into a place where children can live independently and with dignity. Thanks to a comprehensive solar power system, the facility is now energy independent. A newly built well with a water reservoir reliably supplies seven independent sanitary areas with fresh water –

A lot has also changed in terms of safety. The site has been fenced off and fitted with sturdy metal doors, protecting the children in their everyday lives and creating a sense of trust. In addition, cooperation with a local school opens up new educational opportunities for them and strengthens the young residents’ long-term chances of leading a self-determined life.

The “With heart and hands” project impressively demonstrates how sustainable project work can be effective when infrastructure, protection, and education are considered together. This is mainly thanks to the project’s volunteer coordinator, Pierre Olivares, Senior Project & Portfolio Manager at the Lufthansa Group subsidiary time:matters. He visits the project in his spare time and takes on important project management tasks from his workplace in the Netherlands.
