Our project work in Latin America
Latin America is strongly characterized by social and economic inequality. The indigenous population and people with African-American roots in particular live in socially disadvantaged conditions. In rural regions and slums, there is often a lack of access to water, electricity and education. Violence and organized crime are widespread, with the highest rates worldwide, especially among women. Educational opportunities are also unevenly distributed: Around five million children do not attend school and many young people do not complete secondary school. Millions of people live in poverty or are at risk of poverty, although some countries are making economic progress.
In Latin America, we are committed to helping children and young people in disadvantaged neighborhoods with the aim of opening up new opportunities for them through education and training programs. We accompany them on their way from school to their first job and show them alternatives to drug dealing and organized crime. At the same time, we are committed to protecting nature, as the region is rich in vital forest and water resources. That is why we also promote a mindful approach to the environment in our projects.
