Drinking coffee for a good cause

For every refill cup in the iThemba design sold, five euros go to the help alliance’s educational project in Cape Town

With every cup the Lufthansa catering service (LZ Catering) supports the iThemba primary school in South Africa with five euros. The school is located in the township of Capricorn just outside the South African metropolis of Cape Town. Over 2500 children without a school place live in this socially and economically disadvantaged suburb. A large proportion of the people are illiterate; the unemployment rate is 70 percent. Poverty, violence and lack of prospects are the result.

Under normal circumstances, the majority of the children living in Townships would have no chance of attending school. But there is hope – literally: about two years ago, the iThemba Primary School was opened in the township. And iThemba means hope. The school offers 700 girls and boys from Capricorn a first-class education and the chance to realize their dream of a successful future.

The campaign is a cooperation between LZ Catering, Kahla Porcelain and help alliance, which was initiated by Christian Haude as the idea provider. The Lufthansa Technik employee, help alliance project manager for iThemba for more than two years, has coordinated and implemented this project in cooperation with the designer Sara Anbeh and the cooperation partners, from the idea to production and roll-out.

The refill cups are available at all LZ Catering Bartesse locations.
